3 Reasons Why You Should Consider Upsizing Your Gutters

Bigger is always better: we hear this said a lot but it isn’t always true. Well, when it comes to your gutters that may be the case. If you are in the market for new gutters, you should consider going for a larger one instead of the standard 5-inch. While oversized gutters may seem like overkill, here are three good reasons why you should get them anyway according to a trusted gutter and siding installation company.

1. Less Clogging

If you go for 6-inch gutters instead of the standard 5-inch, you may be thinking that the extra inch might not make too much of a difference but that isn’t the case. 6-inch gutters will have a much larger capacity to handle rainwater and debris. In fact, 6-inch gutters have double the capacity of 5-inch gutters. This means fewer backups and better protection from damage that is caused by clogs. If your roof has a steep pitch, larger gutters are particularly recommended.

2. Better Protection for Your Fascia Boards

Larger gutters can cover the entirety of your fascia boards which means that they get less exposure to the elements which in turn means less maintenance and damage. Gutter installation companies typically recommend getting at least 6-inch gutters if your home has 3.5 to 5.5-inch fascia boards.

3. They Are Easier To Clean

Let’s face it, going up the ladder to clean out your gutters is probably one of your least favorite chores. Why not make it go easier by installing larger gutters. Because the mouth at the top is an inch wider, you will have more room for your hand so you can scoop out the debris a lot easier. If you have large hands, this is especially convenient.
