Dirt and Debris
Using soap, water and a soft bristle brush, clean your fence to remove dirt and debris.
Leaf Stains, Water Spots and Wood Tannins
It’s normal for wooden Trex products to experience tannin leaching. After at least 12 weeks of normal weather, the stain will appear less visible. Using products with oxalic or phosphoric acid can make the process go much more quickly.
Scruffs and Abrasions
Normally, scruffs and abrasions go away after 12-16 weeks of weathering. A WD-40 can be applied as a temporary fix if you wish to hide a scruff or abrasion before the product weathers. With a rag, carefully rub a tiny amount of WD-40 into the area. A product containing oxalic or phosphoric acid like a deck brightener can speed up the weathering process.
Oil and Grease Stains
Immediately rinse stains with hot water. Use an oil stain remover on leftover stains. Rust Stains, Ground-In Dirt and Grime and Pigment Staining
A deck brightener can be used to lighten or remove rust or dirt. Let the stain sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing.
Mold and Mildew
Cleaning your fence at least twice a year will help prevent debris build-up, which contributes to mold and mildew growth. Remove mold and mildew using fence washes or cleaners with sodium hypochlorite (bleach) and detergent.
Don’ts
It’s not recommended to pressure wash Trex products. It can damage the fencing and void the warranty. Sanding can alter the appearance of the surface and void the warranty. Trex products should not be burned and must be disposed of with construction debris or household waste.
